Vitamin C

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that strengthens the immune system, supports collagen production for healthy skin and joints, and helps your body absorb iron from plant foods. It also protects your cells from oxidative stress, making it important for long-term health.

Does it really work?

A unique thing about Vitamin C is that, unlike most animals, humans can’t make it on their own—we have to get it from food or supplements.

Can I get enough in real food?

  • 1 medium orange = about 90% of daily needs

  • 1 cup strawberries = about 100% of daily needs

  • 1 cup cooked broccoli = about 135% of daily needs

  • ½ cup red bell pepper = more than 100% of daily needs

Do I need a supplement for everyday health?

Most people can meet their Vitamin C needs from food (citrus, strawberries, peppers, broccoli, etc.), but a multivitamin is a reliable way to make sure you don’t fall short—especially on days when fresh produce is limited. Unlike some vitamins, extra C is usually safe since it’s water-soluble, and your body flushes out what it doesn’t use.
