Potassium

Potassium

Potassium is an electrolyte mineral that regulates fluid balance, muscle contractions, and heart rhythm.

What does it do?

It lowers blood pressure, supports heart health, and balances sodium. Low intake is linked with hypertension and increased heart disease risk.

What foods and how much do I need to get DV?

The Daily Value (DV) is 4,700 mg.

  • 1 medium banana = ~10% DV

  • 1 cup cooked potatoes (with skin) = ~30% DV

  • 1 cup cooked spinach = ~25% DV

  • 1 cup cooked beans = ~20% DV

Do I need a supplement for everyday health?

Not usually. Most people can get enough through fruits, vegetables, and legumes. Potassium supplements are only recommended under medical supervision due to risks of high blood levels.
