Calcium
Calcium
Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body, stored mainly in bones and teeth.
What does it do?
It supports bone strength, muscle contraction, nerve signaling, and heart rhythm. Low intake increases risk of osteoporosis and fractures.
What foods and how much do I need to get DV?
The Daily Value (DV) is 1,300 mg for adults.
1 cup milk = ~25% DV
1 cup plain yogurt = ~30% DV
1 ounce cheddar cheese = ~20% DV
1 cup cooked kale = ~10% DV
Do I need a supplement for everyday health?
Not if you consume dairy or fortified foods regularly. Supplements may help those with low intake, but very high doses have been linked to kidney stones and heart concerns.
