Probiotics
Probiotics are live microorganisms (mostly bacteria and some yeasts) that help keep your gut microbiome balanced. They support digestion, nutrient absorption, immune health, and even mood regulation through the gut-brain axis.
Does it really work?
Yes — but results vary depending on the strain. Clinical research shows probiotics can help with specific issues like diarrhea, constipation, IBS, and antibiotic recovery. They’re less effective as a “one-size-fits-all” supplement. Different strains do different jobs, so quality and formulation matter.
Can I get enough in real food?
Yes. Fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, and kombucha naturally contain beneficial microbes. These are a great foundation, but supplements can deliver higher doses of targeted strains that food alone can’t provide.
Do I need a supplement for everyday health?
Not necessarily. If your gut health is strong and you eat plenty of fermented foods, you may not need a supplement daily. But if you’ve had antibiotics, digestive issues, or want to support immune health, a probiotic supplement can be very beneficial.
