Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb often promoted for reducing stress, improving sleep, and boosting energy. It works mainly by lowering cortisol (the body’s stress hormone) and calming the nervous system. Some studies show it may improve resilience to fatigue, particularly in people who are chronically stressed or experiencing burnout.

Does it really work?

The evidence is encouraging but not bulletproof. Clinical trials have shown modest improvements in energy, sleep quality, and overall well-being, but results vary and sample sizes are often small. Ashwagandha seems most effective for stress-related fatigue rather than medical causes of exhaustion (like anemia, thyroid disorders, or nutrient deficiencies).

Can I get enough in real food?

Ashwagandha is not something you can get from regular foods. It’s an herbal root (part of the nightshade family) traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine. Unlike nutrients such as magnesium or CoQ10, which you can increase through diet, there isn’t a food equivalent or culinary source of ashwagandha.
