Candles

Most conventional candles are made from paraffin wax, a petroleum byproduct that can release toxic compounds like benzene and toluene when burned—both known carcinogens. Many also contain synthetic fragrances with phthalates and metal-core wicks that may emit heavy metals. Together, these ingredients can contribute to indoor air pollution, triggering headaches, asthma, and hormone disruption in sensitive individuals.

Beeswax Candles

Beeswax candles are 100% natural and minimally processed. They burn almost twice as long as paraffin wax candles and emit negative ions that may help purify indoor air. Naturally honey-scented and free from additives, they offer a clean, simple way to brighten your space.

Coconut Wax Candles

Coconut wax is a clean-burning, slow-melting option that lasts much longer than paraffin candles. It’s typically made from cold-pressed coconut oil, making it soft, sustainable, and low in soot. For the purest option, look for 100% coconut wax rather than blends with soy or paraffin.

What about soy wax candles?

100% soy candles are a cleaner, more natural alternative to paraffin candles. Soy wax is plant-based and burns with significantly less soot and indoor air pollution than paraffin. While high-end non-toxic candles can be pricey, 100% soy candles without synthetic fragrance offer a wallet-friendly option that burns cleaner and supports a more toxin-conscious home. Just be sure to choose soy wax that’s not blended with paraffin or synthetic additives.
